The Big Red Fire Engine Visited our Nursery Today

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue

It has been a very exciting day again as we had a surprise visit from the Fire Fighters! They brought with them the biggest, reddest, brightest and best fire engine we have ever seen. We were allowed to climb up and down it (our Ladies and the Firemen helped us get up those jagged steps) and we got to sit in the passengers’ seat. We saw a lot of the firemen’s tools, helmets, uniforms, boots, torches, Jaws of Life and other gadgets, and even got the chance to lift the nozzle and hose. That were really heavy, but we managed to work together using our muscles. We pretended to spray the Manager’s car with invisible water.
As it pulled away, we were all watching the lights flashing brightly. But we certainly all jumped as we heard the fire engine’s siren followed by a loud “Toot-toot!” from its horn.
We then made our own Fire Engine in the garden using some crates and a big red sheet. The long yellow garden hose was good enough to be our tool in fighting fire and rescuing people. We used buckets of water to dowse the pretend fire in the Wendy House. Emergency! Quick, we need a ladder; the climbing frame will do.
