In Panda Room, We have been busy doing.....

 Drawing

We are learning to grip and control the pens
We are learning about colors and the marks we make
...And sometimes what they taste like !!
We have also been exploring the boxes, tubes and pots.
We had fun banging, tapping, shaking and rolling them to see what sounds they made.
Also the curiosity and wonder of what is inside, below, in and on the boxes and tubes.
We have also been getting messy and doing some painting.
(helping to make the tree for the display)
We used brushes, rollers and scrapers to make lots of different effects.
We quite liked the texture of the paint and used our  hands .....
 .... and mouths
We have also been exploring different textured materials.

We have explored them by hiding, scrunching, throwing, feeling, rolling on and also found some dislikes with the texture of some of the materials.

Heuristic Play

We really like exploring and investigating the heuristic objects

Here we have wooden and metal objects, we like to use our imagination and use them to role play, test sounds, test ideas and explore texture.

We have also been enjoying the lovely Autumn weather of rain, sun and wind!

We enjoy going out in all weather and exploring the fallen leaves, puddles and sand.

We like to combine the materials outdoors and see what happens.
Here we are mixing sand with water.

Please remember.. Although we provide all weather suits,  please to bring spare clothes and wellies (old shoes) in as we do go out in all weathers.

The Big Red Fire Engine Visited our Nursery Today

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue

It has been a very exciting day again as we had a surprise visit from the Fire Fighters! They brought with them the biggest, reddest, brightest and best fire engine we have ever seen. We were allowed to climb up and down it (our Ladies and the Firemen helped us get up those jagged steps) and we got to sit in the passengers’ seat. We saw a lot of the firemen’s tools, helmets, uniforms, boots, torches, Jaws of Life and other gadgets, and even got the chance to lift the nozzle and hose. That were really heavy, but we managed to work together using our muscles. We pretended to spray the Manager’s car with invisible water.
As it pulled away, we were all watching the lights flashing brightly. But we certainly all jumped as we heard the fire engine’s siren followed by a loud “Toot-toot!” from its horn.
We then made our own Fire Engine in the garden using some crates and a big red sheet. The long yellow garden hose was good enough to be our tool in fighting fire and rescuing people. We used buckets of water to dowse the pretend fire in the Wendy House. Emergency! Quick, we need a ladder; the climbing frame will do.

The Day the Policemen and Sniffer Dogs Came to Visit

During our Occupations Weeks,  the children learned about the different work that our parents do. We were fortunate enough to get a visit from our friendly Policemen and their Sniffer Dogs.
Policeman Andy talked to the children about what it is they do, how they assist people and how important it is to know who to turn to when you need help.

The children also learned about how the dogs had to go to special dog school to learn how to do their job of sniffing for bad things. The children even checked their pockets to make sure they didn't have bad things in them before meeting the Sniffer dogs called Bob and Troy. Once outside, the Policemen Andy and Jim showed how the dogs looked for dangerous things. Bob got very, very still when he smelled what he was looking for... then, he got a treat for a job well done!
We also got the chance to wear a few hats which the police use: one for traffic, and another for the lady police.

They might have been a little big for our heads, but we can grow into them.

We also got some exciting stickers with Troy's photo on them which we proudly displayed on our coats.

One of the Ladies got the chance to be put in handcuffs just to see how it felt (there may or may not have been cheers of "That's it, get her!" from the other ladies).  The boys tried to work out how to unlock the handcuffs and save her from being trapped.

Thanks very much, Andy and Jim!
