Doctor, Doctor, give me news...

This week we have been very busy looking after the patients in our Pepperbox Nursery Clinic.

At Elephant Ward, the doctors and nurses made sure their poorly patients had a thorough check-up.

We are using the blood pressure monitor. A push of the button will turn it on and it pumps air into the arm band. It gets really tight and squeezes your finger!

We wrote down the result and made sure the doctor read it correctly.

Let's use our manual sphygmomanometer to check the blood pressure again, shall we?

I'm sure it's nothing some eye drops can't cure!

Colouring fun!

Also this week: Let's make a river! (Who says it's too cold to play outside?)

First, we need to make a ditch with our shovels.
Some wooden planks will be our bridges.

"We need a boat to see if our river really works."

Uh-oh! Low bridge!
Fill our Tuff Tub with bark,
then dump it out again
(like a dumper truck would!).

A mountain of sand for our cars to drive up

Can't play in the sand pit because of the cold?
Problem solved, a beach inside the room!

In panda room we have been...

Exploring with water outside through the taps and rainwater!!
Using the water to do some painting on the blackboard.
I have been practicing to sit up all by myself !!!
We have also been exploring with these pretty stones and putting them in pots.
Splishing and splashing in the water

Trying to catch the ducks.

We have also been practicing our cooking skills using
the role play food and equipment.
Practicing our climbing skills on the soft play.

Last week we had farmer Jim and his wife Emma visit us with some of their cows !!

We had lots of fun looking at them and touching them!!

Calves and Tractor visit

Harvey's daddy (James) is a farmer.
On Friday he brought his tractor...

...and trailer

...and 3 calves to nursery for us to see!

'Farmer Jim' brought some milk powder that the calves like to drink. It is made from dried cow's milk.

We added water to the powder and had to mix and mix and mix it round. 'Farmer Jim' told us that the calves drink from bottles or buckets from 7 weeks old.

He also told us that he has 192 cows on his farm and that cows only have bottom teeth and no top teeth!

We had a ride in the tractor...

...and explored the enormous wheels.
Look! The wheels are nearly as tall as Hannah!!
WOW!

We had to walk up the ramp of the trailer to see the calves. It was steep.

Thank you 'Farmer Jim' and 'Farmer's wife, Emma' for sharing your work with us.
We loved seeing the calves.

Photographer at nursery

Just to remind you all...
We have 'Concept photography' coming to nursery to take photos of the children on Monday 22nd October 2012.

If your child does not attend on a Monday but you would like to have their photo taken please come along between 9.00-10.30am so that non-attendees and group photos can be taken first.

Proofs of the photos usually come to us within a couple of weeks of the shoot and we ask for any orders within a week of handing them out.

Final copies are always back to us during  November and certainly in plenty of time for Christmas posting or presents.

In panda room we have been.....

Exploring and investigating wooden, metal and household objects treasure baskets.
Tearing and ripping various textured paper.
Climbing and sliding on this fun wooden climbing frame !!!!

Weeeeeee!!!!

Making music banging and tapping our instruments on this box !!!!

 It was very loud !!!

Splishing and splashing in the rain outside !
We used the rainwater to dip our paintbrushes in and 'paint' the blackboard.
 Look a puddle .... Splash !!!!
Feeling the texures and shapes of shells.

Some were bumpy.

Some were smooth.

Some were small and some were big.

We have also been practicing handling           pencils and pens to draw and make marks.

Exporing natural materials

The Children really enjoyed exploring natural materials this week.
We sorted shells and pebbles by type and size.
We enjoyed exploring the sand using spades and diggers.
We had a building site in the room. Using construction vehicals to move soil, gravel and sand.
We tried some Autumnal fruits. After tasting them we used them to do some printing. Come and see our pictures.
